Mary Kay

BlogHer gave me a great opportunity to review some make-up from Mary Kay. What girl can so no to free make-up?!? Not this girl!

It came in the mail all wrapped up pretty.

The box contained Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara, Tinted Lip Balm, and Mineral Eye Color Bundle

I love the idea of bundling my eyeshadows and blush into one easy compact. I travel quite a bit for work and having everything all together would be so much easier. The colors were great for my green eyes and I was really impressed by the eyeshadow. My experience with Mary Kay eyeshadow in the past hasn't been good. They must have a new formula because the pigment of the eyeshadows was concentrated and it didn't take several applications to see the color. It also lasted throughout the day.

The blush was the best surprise! I usually wear name brand blush and this was just as good as those brands. I loved the color and the very slight shimmer.

I was a little hesitant about the tinted lip balm. It looks pretty bright in the tube, but it was much more subtle on. The best part is it contains SPF 15! That is a great thing for a fair skinned gal like me.

I'm very picky about my mascara and dreaded even putting this formula on my lashes. Boy, I was I wrong about it. The mascara doesn't clump and has a good consistency. The brush on the wand was a good shape and I was able to get a really good coat on my lashes.

You'll have to excuse the deer in headlights look. I did my make-up before work one morning and that flash was bright. :)

I think that Mary Kay has really stepped up their game. They are definitely not the same company I knew growing up and are real contenders in the beauty industry.

Find your way to beautiful and enter for your chance to win Mary Kay products estimated at $100 value!

Duraflame Stax Fire Logs Giveaway

Two winners! Congrats Amy and Jennifer!

I was sent the latest product from Duraflame, Stax, a firelog with the stacked aesthetics and crackling sounds of a wood fire. We have had so much snow in the last week and we were snowed in today. It made for the perfect time to try it out.

Here’s a little background on Stax:

  • A Stax fire takes just minutes to build without the mess or splinters

  • Only three Stax logs are needed for an evening’s fire compared to a 30-pound bundle of wood

  • In a fireplace, the firelogs produce approximately 50 percent less emissions than an equivalent wood fire

  • Stax logs are the first Duraflame firelogs designed to burn with multiple logs and are approved for use in a wood stove

  • Stax are available at grocery and major retailers across the country, including Target and K-Mart. A box retails for $9.99 to $19.99, depending on the bundle size
I built this fire by myself, which is something I've never done before. It was easy peasy and there was no mess. Definitely a plus in my book!
This product can be used in a wood stove or outdoors in a fire pit or for a camp fire.

Duraflame is giving away two coupons for "one 3-log bundle of duraflame Stax logs." There will be two winners chosen and I will be mailing the coupon to you.

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment. If you don't have a linked account please leave your e-mail address in the comment.
The giveaway will close Friday night at 5 p.m. central standard time.

Gift Card Giveaway to Apothica (make-up store)

Have y'all heard of Apothica? It is a great online store that focuses on cosmetics with brands such as Stila, Too Faced, Smashbox and more. Apothica is related to, as a site that focuses on clinical skin care that carries many beauty brands, such as Obagi, Eminence, and Clarisonic. In addition to the brands, their sites have Master Estheticians available to help choose the right product for the right skin type plus an awesome loyalty program.

Apothica is giving away a $25 gift certificate to their site. There are so many great items to choose from, but if I were the winner I would put it toward my favorite perfume, Tocca Cleopatra.

Inspired by the Mediterranean seductress, Tocca's Cleopatra eau de parfum captivates the senses. Fresh and sparkling grapefruit and lush greens fade into accords of sensual white jasmine and tuberose, leaving an exotic, rich dry down of warm patchouli, golden amber and rich vanilla musk.

It is a great scent, plus it comes in a pretty bottle! They also carry Tocca candles. I have not used any of their candles before, but I have heard good things about them.

I am creating a Kodak book to recap 2010. I'm not very good at printing pictures throughout the year. This way they are printed and already put in an album for me. Yay!

Kodak makes it super easy by organizing your photos by date. I wanted it to be chronological and they made it super easy.

They use a SMART FIT technology that makes uploading pictures so easy that I think even my mom could figure it out! That's saying a lot. Sorry mom! :)

kodak 3

I like the way photos look on a black background, but there are several other options to choose from. I also like that Kodak keeps a running tab of how much the book will cost. That is very helpful!

I can't wait to receive my book! Thanks Kodak!

Nordstrom Gift Card GIVEAWAY!!

We have a winner! Lucky number 17!
RANDOM.ORG - True Random Number Service - Mozilla Firefox 9102010 114751 AM
Emma Kate!
Please e-mail me at to claim your prize. If I do not hear back from you within 48 hours, I will have to randomly select a new winner.

Have y'all ever heard of Designer Apparel? I sure wish I would have know about it when I was searching for my Mom's Mother of the Bride dress. We had the hardest time finding something that looked like my mom, fit and was in our budget. This site would have made all the searching easier.

The site is set up really well and lets you search by price, store, and different sales. I love sites that give me several categories to choose from. Designer Apparel has brought together some great stores all in one place: Neiman Marcus, Shopbop, Bloomingdales, Bluefly, Zappos, Net-A-Porter, and Nordstrom. They also have tools like price comparison, sale notification, and free shipping notice! I am all about online stores with free shipping codes. :)

One of the problems with finding my Mom's dress was she is petite, so sizing was difficult. I found several petite options on Designer Apparel.

They also have plus sizes.

Another problem we had was everything looked too old for my mom. We didn't want her to look frumpy and it seemed that most Mother of the Bride dresses we found just weren't her style. I was expecting to see a lot of frumpy dresses when I searched through this site. It was not the case. They do have the more traditional dress, but several that would have been great options for my mom. And the more I think about it Ty's mom as well. I know she struggled with finding a dress that fit her style when she was searching for a dress for her youngest daughter's wedding.
{Donna Ricco}

Something to note is when you click on a thumbnail image of a dress, the site takes you directly to the retailer. Designer Apparel isn't a middle man. They also offer links to help you search for kids clothes, handbags and maternity--just to name a few.

Now for the giveaway part--$100 gift card to Nordstrom to a lucky reader.
Leave me a comment telling me if you had ever heard of Designer Apparel before this post.

The giveaway will close Thursday at 10 pm central time and the winner will be announced on Friday.
